Well, yesterday was the final programming meeting. As expected, it was an all day affair, that once we were done, left me exhausted.
peatandrepeat and
jollyroger13 had invited me to a celebration at their house last evening, but there was just no way I could have gone, no matter how much I wanted to be there. Even if had been able to, I don't think I would have been good company.
I was up pretty much all night Friday evening, so when the meeting was over (around 6pm), I crashed for a little while. Silly me didn't turn off the ringer on the phone in my bedroom, so I was up 3 hours later. Thank heavens David answered the phone before I did, because the voice on the other end was someone that I really didn't want to talk to. I got up and went to get something to drink and heard enough of David's side of the conversation that I had to go back downstairs and shut the door before I yanked the phone away from him and said a lot of stuff I shouldn't.
The person on the phone hasn't even gotten the email yet of all the guests I yanked from his track because he scheduled them at the same time as another track. But, the other track emailed me and he chose not to, so guess who won? In fact, I have a lot of emails to send out tonight about final changes being over and done with, and guests that were moved. I started to do it last night, but I was so tired that I just couldn't deal with the hundreds of calls and emails I am going to get over the decisions that were made.
What really makes me angry is they all had the same amount of time, the same opportunities, and all knew the rules. Now, because half of them listened, the other half is going to bitch and whine to me that I was playing favorites, even though they were the ones that chose not to follow the rules.
I will say one good thing about my job. It's teaching me to say no, and not just no, but also, oh hell no!
Otherwise, I am not sure how much I really like my new job with the convention. I was talking to David about it last night, and he thinks I am just having first time blues and frustration. He says next year it will be better because I am designing the new database and the way track members submit their schedules. Maybe he's right.
Or maybe I should have said my new job responsibilities, because I still have a lot of the old ones. Although, not having to worry over the Daily Dragon (thank you yet again,
eugie and Matthew!) has been a real relief. It means that when I am exhausted by the time the Con gets here, I can rest some. David has promised to handle the track schedule stuff during the Con so I can relax and try to enjoy it and not be a raving lunatic pain in the ass like I usually am.
Of course, I know I will still wind up dealing with schedule last minute, what do you mean we can't change this because we decided it would work better at 1:00 instead of 2:30, surely, our big name guest can be there an hour and a half earlier, right?, stuff that I am dealing with right now. And I already know of several things just waiting in the winds for their moment to try to slip by me. Guess it sucks for all involved that I am not half as blind or stupid as I must look.
By the way, is it a bad thing that I can't wait for Dragon*Con to get here just so it will be over??

I know that a fixed schedule still hasn't been produced for you, but alas, there are an awful lot of chefs making this soup. Date: 2003-08-04 02:44 pm (UTC)We wound up staying at our friend's house in Bowdon and taking her boat on the lake and watching Bowdon celebrate their 150th Founder's Day by illuminating the sky with at least $5,000 of fireworks, after a day of hiking in Alabama.
We'll be having more get togethers soon, this time with more advanced notice!

Date: 2003-08-08 08:42 am (UTC)lol In the track directors defense (dear heavens, did I just say that?), they are suppose to just do their schedules, therefore, there are always conflicts. Fortunately, they are usually few and far between, since many guests are track specific. The problem comes when they can't work together to solve a conflict. I have pretty much decided that next year, I will just solve the conflict and let them live with the decisions.
heh No. It is a good word, but sometimes I wonder if I say it in a foreign language, because I have to repeat it alot. :)
Yes, well, you will definately be helping me soon. I am just waiting for the last of the fall out on the schedules so I can put it to bed, then I will need help editing the text. It's a LOT of text to go through, like 150 pages or so. But I will tell you more about it when I am ready to start that.
