I was going to write about the incredible amount of idocy that runs rampant in the world today, the kind that can only be fully understood when it glares at you in the face. I have decided instead to write about something else.

When I was a little girl, my daddy owned a pawn shop in downtown Columbus, GA. It was a modest little store in a modest little town. Fortunately for me, it was right next door to a place called Orange Julius. I don't know if these little gems still exist in our world, but if they don't then the world has certainly lost out on something special.

In the summer, during school breaks, and at Christmas time, I would stay with my daddy at the store whenever I could. I would wrap presents at Christmas. The rest of the time, I wouldnsmile and wave to customers while marveling over the "rare treasures" his store possessed.

At lunchtime, my daddy would give me $2.00 and send me next door to the Orange Julius where I would get us two slices of heaven wrapped in triangluar shaped little plastic containers. Inside these little packages resided ham and american cheese with miracle whip on white wonder bread with the crusts cut off. I would collect up my sandwiches, potato chips, and two large Orange Julius', which to this day, I still don't know what they put in those, and my change. Yes, I said change, a whole quarter to be precise. Then I would go back to my daddy's store and curl up on a high barstool and we'd eat our sandwiches and drink our orange flavored sugary goodness and just enjoy the day.

It was a rare time, one that I miss frequently, when I was carefree and genuinely happy.

Now, if you will excuse me, I am going to go eat my little slice of heaven and reminisce.
