Well, thank God for the 1st Ammendment

As many of you know, I am a staunch supporter of the first ammendment. I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.
However, I feel that when it comes to officials of our country, who are speaking for us, all of us, to the world at large, there has a level of responsibility and accountability. What makes this story even more unbelievable to me is that he's being backed up by even more officials, the same officials that help put the war with Iraq into motion.
What I can't understand is what they hope to accomplish by saying these things to the world. Is it really another Crusades they want on their hands?
Further, in a country that was founded on a difference of religious opinion, that once held open arms of tolerance for those unlike ourselves, where does our government get off allowing this sort of thing to go by without discipline?
I use to think that I couldn't possibly get more disgusted with the way things were going, every day someone seems to be working at proving me wrong.

Date: 2003-10-16 10:04 pm (UTC)"This administration" is full of hate mongering idiots who want to dismantle the constitution.
When you have to say "it's not about religion" what they really mean is "it's about religion". All they need is Bob Barr dismantling freedom of religion (but at least to his credit, Barr thinks the Patriot Act is unconstitutional).
